First Class

Beginning in March of 2024, the APWU’s Leadership Institute held its first class comprising of over 30 promising future leaders. The program was lead by Vi Ward, Katherine Isaac, and Stephen DeMatteo. The course featured several guest instructors from the National APWU such as Director Joyce Robinson, President Mark Dimondstein, and Director Judy Beard.

Over the course of three weeks the program featured several topics ranging from what is an effective leader all the way to communication. Sprinkled in between were intense discussions on the history of the labor movement and socio-economic topics. For all attendees it was an intense program!

The program, being in its infancy, required daily input from attendees on all topics presented and their delivery. This first course should serve as a foundation for all following Leadership Institute classes to come.

The results of the program were near instantaneous. Several Alumni passed passed APWU Arbitration Training, were selected for Committees for the 27th APWU National Convention and were elected to state and local offices.

The attendees of the Inaugural Leadership Institute were:

Akil Fisher, Andrew Vasquez, Angela McDonald, Bishop, Brittany Price, Cory Johnson, Courtney Agee, Danny Bailey, Don Hoffrogge, Eric Chornoby, Felicia R. Miller, Gabby Morales, Gabriel Medina, Ibrahím Pedriñán, Jeremy Schilling, Keith Combs, Kenneth Barrett, Kim Maurer, Kisandrea Molter, Laura Marvel, Liset Hernandez, Michelle Mack, Michelle Nadeau, Miriam Brockman, Rictarsha (Rikki) Westmoreland, Robert Johnson, Sam Wood, Shametria Bush, Sheree Duncan, Sheri Butler, Tiffany Ellsworth, and Waylon McDonald.

We shall see in the coming days the benefit the Leadership Institute had on all attendees!
